2014 was a rough year for me in terms of serving.
It started out strong. The usual New Year enthusiasm, but things quickly became rough as the year went on. For me, creative momentum is something that is hard to keep going unless I am surrounded by an active community of people creating as well. I guess you could say that I have that community at work (I work with a team of designers). But designing just to solve a problem whether it's purely visual, business related etc. still left a void in my heart.
Our theme for 2015 is Greater Things: Stepping Into God's Promises, and I think I'm starting to make sense of why I am the way I am. Thanks to the recent sermons, I learned that we are all created to worship Him and how worship manifests itself in different ways.
I'm ehhhhh at singing,
I love dancing like no one is watching,
But what really makes me tick may be what
I'm supposed to worship him with: design.
It's a combination of my God given gifts, my thoughts and my emotions. If we are meant to worship with our all then all I can think about is praising Him through design. Not only have I begun to understand what worship means to me, but I feel like the entire creative team is renewed with the same excitement. This collective revival is really an incredible feeling, and to experience it with community like this is what will keep me going on the long run. Because every time I think I can just do the solo thing, God has proven to me time and time again, "Nah son." We were meant to not only worship Him, but to worship together.
I hope that you are part of a community that will rally with you, and if you are looking to be part of one, take a peek over here or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org! Also, I don't care if you have never drawn a thing in your life. If you think worshipping through visual communication interests you, drop this guy a line!
